Copenhagen Fashion Week AW19: The Designers
To mark the start of Copenhagen Fashion Week, let us formally introduce you to four of our hottest designers who all showcase their collections in the capital and find out why they are the height of Scandi-cool.
These contemporary designers include an influencer duo, a Danish favourite and a heart-warming brand giving new opportunities to those in difficult circumstances. Three have been welcomed to the Browns family this season and we cannot wait to see what they have in store for AW19.
“I think the most exciting thing about Copenhagen is that brands there seem to always know what digitally savvy girls want to wear so I am really looking forward to see what brands such as Ganni, Rotate and Stand will propose on the runway as those will be Instagram hit pieces for sure!”
- Costanza Lombardi, Junior Buyer
Rotate

One of the most Instagram-able and sought after collections, Rotate made its debut appearance at CFW last August. Created by Copenhagen fashion institution Birger Christensen alongside influencer/stylist duo Jeanette Madsen and Thora Valdimars, Rotate dresses are top of everyone’s list. Based on their dream dresses, the pair wanted to create “dresses with a sense of attitude and character,” a party piece to dress up or down. Their collection for SS19 took design cues from 80s eveningwear and unlike their minimalistic Scandinavian counterparts, they are rich in colour and detail.
Carcel
A brand with a unique purpose, Carcel prides itself on using 100% natural materials and providing new opportunities to women who are imprisoned in highly deprived parts of the world. Carcel’s production is based within these correctional facilities in Cusco, Peru and Chiang Mai, Thailand, giving these women the option of learning a new skill with a fair wage to help them find better jobs upon leaving the prison. Poverty-led crime is one of the main reasons these women find themselves behind bars and Carcel is helping to support them to break this cycle and go on to live a crime-free life. Using materials from the country they produce in, the finest alpaca wool is sourced from Peru and the softest silk is found in Thailand, which become Carcel’s luxury jumpers and separates.
STAND

Noticing a gap in the market for high fashion leather and faux fur pieces, designer Nellie Kamras founded STAND in 2014. Coming from a strong family background within the leather industry, Nellie’s jackets and coats are inspired by French style with an underlying element of classic Scandinavian simplicity. New to Browns for SS19, STAND provides a range of colour pop and printed pieces that will be a welcome addition to your Marie Kondo’d wardrobe.
Ganni
GANNI is the purveyor of millennial cool-girl style with their effortless, easy-to-wear pieces. Founded in 2000 and run by husband-and-wife team Ditte and Nicolaj Reffstrup since 2009, Ganni challenges the Scandi-style stereotype and presents a brand that breaks the rules, experimenting with silhouette and colour. A Ganni knit or wrap dress is a basic necessity for any fashion devotee not to mention the chunky sneakers and accessories…the list goes on. Proud of their Nordic heritage but unafraid of breaking out of the minimalist mould, Ganni embodies the contemporary woman.
