We may be reluctant to embrace it, but summer days are slowly coming to an end and we find ourselves increasingly looking for an extra layer. But don’t despair! The days may be getting shorter but we have the best of the new season trends to inject some warmth back into your wardrobe for the cooler months ahead. 

AW19 brought us chain-like monograms, elevated basics and a delectable mix of burnt caramel tones.

 To get inspired for the new season, our womenswear buyers have selected their favourite trends that are set to take over your wardrobe this fall.

You’re so basic…
The term “basic” is shaking off its negative connotations thanks to a new guard of luxury houses bringing us the elevated minimalism our wardrobe has been craving. Using soft textures and boxy silhouettes, AW19 gave us a chic update on contemporary classics. Master the art of tonal dressing with minimalist hero Jil Sander, experiment with loose-fit tailoring in Lemaire and add a dash of ‘50s inspiration with Rejina Pyo.

The Craft
Unique in appearance and political in approach, the next generation of designers are creating fashion for liberated people. With a grungy, cut ‘n’ sew aesthetic, they stay true to their craft and present their concepts with a conscious message. Pieces are often unisex and embody a sense of raw talent in a new age. Wear sustainability like a badge of honour in Collina Strada, embrace non-binary attitudes in Eckhaus Latta and express yourself in upcycled Rave Review.

New Monogram
Logomania is still going strong, however AW19 ditched the large ‘90s style branding in favour of a more subtle approach. Referencing archive designs, the monogram has evolved into chain-like interlinked patterns across ready-to-wear and accessories. These woven initials make up intricate patterns, encouraging you to pledge your allegiance to your favourite brand in a more subtle fashion. Pay homage to Thomas Burberry with Riccardo Tisci’s new monogrammed pieces, embrace the Gucci Supreme logo reinvention or wear a tribute to Karl Lagerfeld with Fendi’s double-F Karligraphy print.

Golden Brown
Cosy into the cooler months with the warm colour palette that featured heavily for AW19. Delicious shades of caramel, chocolate and chestnut took over from summer’s cooler shades across coats, dresses and accessories. Autumnal tones were layered and mixed with a multitude of textures. Swap the beige for a rust trench coat from Joseph, make it oversized in Loewe and play with gradient in Chloé.

Bad and Bourgeoisie
Grunge goes head to head with its sartorial rival, the sleek style of the bourgeois madame. Sensible skirts, fitted blazers and classic twin sets dominated the runways, bringing a new sense of polished perfection to the fashion world at large. Embrace the elegance of the Rive Gauche madam in Parisian-style blouses, 70s tailoring and a touch of boucle. Keep it uniform in Chloé, dress for Balmoral getaways in Khaite and add some Stepford realness in Prada.

Fair And Square
Being called a square has never looked better. With square toed silhouettes being seen across our favourite AW19 collections, it’s time to boot up in Chloé, get experimental with Balenciaga and bare it all in Bottega Veneta. These are shoes that know their angles.
