What To Wear: To A Wedding

The Alfresco Wedding
There’s no denying that an outdoor wedding, especially one in the lush, green surroundings of the countryside, lends itself to pastel shades and floral prints. Luckily, this season offers up fresh new takes on both. For all-out romance you can always rely on signature florals, puffed sleeves and full skirts at ZIMMERMANN. Magda Butrym and Alessandra Rich balance out the prettiness of saccharine shades with sexy cut-outs and body-skimming silhouettes: all elegance and grace with a distinctly sensual edge. And Dolce & Gabbana's cropped shirt and full-skirt co-ords demand very little by way of accessorising.
The City Wedding
An urban invitation is your chance to nod to more contemporary tailoring. Look for playful pieces that mix masculine with feminine: see Jacquemus’ blazer dress in the season’s pastel yellow or 16Arlington’s collarless coat (can be worn as a dress, or a chic over-layer). You really can't go wrong with a slip dress, (we love KHAITE’s ‘Sicily’ iteration), simply shrug on a structured blazer for effortless elegance.
The Destination Wedding
If you’re travelling for a wedding then the chances are that you need to factor the heat into your look as well as the dress code. With that in mind, keeping your clothes relaxed and simple and elevating them with carefully chosen accessories is a no-brainer. If you want to wear a dress, then stick to lightweight fabrics and look for cut-outs, high hemlines or thigh-splits, (Valentino Garavini has elegant styles you’ll turn to again and again and Christopher Esber is your go-to for something more daring).
The Glam Wedding
A glam dress code is a challenge to be risen to: this is not the time for quiet understatement. Instead, channel the spirit of Studio 64 and deploy all the feathers, sequins and jewel tones that you can lay your hands on. Taller Marmo is the go-to for show stopping dresses, (think lamé kaftans, off-shoulder gowns or feather-plumed midis) and Huishan Zhang’s tulle and ruffled styles guarantees impact. For a slightly more pared-back take, TOVE and 16Arlington’s slinky metallic dresses are a sure-fire way to turn heads. Elsewhere, look for daring necklines, cleverly placed cut-outs, embellished details and be sure to add the sparkling shoes and accessories they deserve.
