What Went Down: Browns X Crenshaw Skate Club Take Over BaySixty6

We kicked London Fashion Week off on a high last Friday, taking over one of the capital’s most renowned skate parks in partnership with Farfetch to celebrate the launch of our exclusive capsule with Crenshaw Skate Club for FARFETCH BEAT 009.

Because what better way to celebrate the skatewear collaboration we’ve all been waiting for - courtesy of the collective which empowers inner-city skaters - than with a LFW event dedicated to championing and empowering London’s skating community at the beloved BaySixty6.

Flying in straight from LA, Tobey, his close family and fellow CSC member Jalen Orlando Fray did us a solid by bringing the Californian sunshine with them. At 4pm on the beautiful summer’s day, skaters aged six and above started to arrive, followed closely by some of our nearest and dearest, fashion friends and music insiders.

Deliciously enticing aromas from our resident tacos and burritos truck by Pink Cactus filled the skate park; whilst the day’s MC (Art of Football host) Kelvyn Quagraine welcomed our guests; and DJ Tailor Jae’s high-octane beats got us in the weekend mood. After everyone had time to cool down with a refreshing Tripp or Karma soda, Browns buying director Ida Petersson took the stage to kick off proceedings.

“Working on projects like this is one of my favourite things about my job, scouting and platforming new talent,” Ida explained. “I’ve been waiting my whole career to tap into my love for the skateboarding community and, in 2022, we came across an article about Tobey which really resonated with us at Browns. Now a year on, celebrating our collaboration and partnership with this event on the LFW schedule and a partnership with Farfetch is such a full circle moment.”

Then, man-of-the-moment Tobey McIntosh shared some inspiring words for the next generation of pro skaters gathered to showcase their skills. “Crenshaw Skate Club has always been more than just a community; it's a culture, a way of life. We believe in pushing boundaries, embracing creativity, and fostering inclusivity. Through our passion for skateboarding, we have formed bonds that transcend borders and language barriers, connecting individuals from all walks of life.”

“But it’s not just about the clothes,” he continued. “It’s about the message we send, the impact we make. Through this collection, we hope to inspire a new generation of young skaters and artists across London, encouraging them to pursue their passions fearlessly. It’s a testament to the power of perseverance, reminding us all that with dedication and belief, dreams can become reality.”

Whilst guests took a moment to soak up the buzzy, uplifting atmosphere, read the inspiring CSC statements hanging above them, and replenish their drinks, the aforementioned young London skaters warmed up for our very own skate competition. The under and over 16s groups each had two rounds to impress the judges with their best tricks to win one of five CSC skate decks up for grabs. We watched with bated breath, remembering just how inspiring it is to watch young people live out the passions they’re truly dedicated to.

Once Tobey and his fellow judge - BaySixty6’s coach and manager - Hector Barnett awarded the well-deserved winners, it was time for beats and LA-inspired bites with friends. We caught up with the likes of Dansplaining’s Danny Lomas, Lennon and Gene Gallagher, model Isobel Richmond, skater Aimee Gillingwater, actor Jed Gharbi, our longtime friend Loshh, musician Charlie Barker, fashion tastemaker Caleb Fempong, and BoF’s Daniel-Yaw Miller.

From the cold tricks to the fire fits, it was a wholesome afternoon which left a smile on everyone’s faces. As people slowly dispersed and the skaters reclaimed their beloved park, Tobey’s inspiring words still resonated in all of our ears…

Embrace your uniqueness, embrace the challenges, and let your creativity flourish. Together, we can redefine what it means to be a skateboarder and showcase the boundless potential of our community.”
