Browns Rated: The Beauty Edit
Beauty advice was made to be shared, so we asked a few of our Browns Community to test drive some of the products from our beauty curation, telling us which they liked best, and offering tips on how to use them. Divided into four beauty personalities, we’ve compiled the best of these testimonials, offering you a helping hand in discovering your own favourites from our beauty curation.
The Curious Customer
Meet the Curious Customer. These are the beauty enthusiasts for whom style and substance go hand in hand. They care about good ingredients and informative packaging that looks as good on a shelfie as it does on one’s skin. Open to trying new things, these are the ones seeking extravagance, not excess. For the curious customer, the word of a friend is as good as that of any expert.
Dr Barbara Sturm The Good C Vitamin C Serum
Bibi Abdulkadir, model: I’m totally obsessed with the Barbara Sturm brand, and this serum is just perfect for those colder months to even out my skin tone. It’s soft, gentle and absorbs straight into my skin. Most importantly, it’s not sticky.
Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist
Truly magic in a bottle. I use it to refresh my skin or for a post cleanse tone. It’s super hydrating without leaving my skin oily. Plus the rose scent is so calming, so it’s a mist for both body and mind.
Sunday Riley Good Genes
Hannah Tindle, Fashion Features Director, ES Magazine: I always incorporate acids into my skincare routine, from lactic to glycolic. Sunday Riley's Good Genes is made from the latter. Having always wanted to experiment with this product, I tried using it first as a leave on treatment, but in fact I prefer it as a mask that I'll use for 15 minutes to create a smooth canvas for makeup.
La Bouche Rouge Les Ombres Eyeshadow Refill
The shadows inside this palette are a shimmer formulation with fine particles, so the overall effect is less Euphoria and more Steven Meisel editorial. The shadows are pigmented enough that you can play around with application and still get a beautiful finish, either with a light sweep over the lid or by packing on the colour for an intense effect.
La Bouche Rouge Lipstick And Lip Pencil
La bouche rouge’s lipstick and lip pencil in Rouge Vendôme and Orangey Red are now added to the extensive list of my favourite red lipsticks and liners. Moisturising and pigmented, when worn together the pair create the perfect vibrant shade as an alternative for wintery, blue-leaning red lipsticks. Hello summer 2022.
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and these eyes are those of the true beauty visionaries. These are products for people who see beauty experimentation as the truest form of self-expression; using products in non-conventional ways, constantly on the hunt for the newest trends, supremely confident in their personal style and their unique beauty rituals.
Votary Super Seed Facial Oil
Nellie Eden, Browns’ Creative Beauty Editor: I spend a lot of time on set with make-up artists and pretty much all of them will massage models' faces before applying their make-up. The stimulation and drainage the massage brings about are both good ways to start your day. If I have time, I apply Votary's Super Seed OiI, watch a YouTube face massage tutorial on my phone and feel better about myself.
Westman Atelier Highlight Stick
I'm not into a full beat. Contouring is best left to the pros and not me. I do however love to lean on the Westman Atelier highlighter "lit' makes me feel like I look like I've just had a facial, a workout session and a nap – which is never the case.
Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Masque
Mesh Henry, dancer and choreographer: This is such a great product! I’ve noticed brighter skin and much clearer pores after using this and I only need to cleanse once with this, instead of twice.
Grown Alchemist Age Repair Sleep Masque
This has been such a game changer to my nightly routine. When the mask is rubbed into the skin it's so lightweight. I’ve noticed that my skin looks much more hydrated than usual when I wake up.
The Speed Seeker
A luxurious taste in beauty, but without the luxury of time? Looks like you might be one of our Speed Seekers, namely beauty aficionados who want results-driven routines, reliable products and quick and efficient application from the brands they know and trust.
The Grey Exfoliating Toning Pads
Henrik Lischke, fashion writer: I’ve enjoyed building these pads into my skincare routine. As with everything in skincare, frequency is important. There’s no instant wonder product that’ll glow-up your skin for good overnight. Exfoliating a few times a week (not too often as any aggressive treatment doesn’t sit well with my skin) has gradually improved the texture of my skin. I use these at night, followed by a potent moisturiser.
Patrick's M2 Matte Finish Medium Hold Styling Product
Having long hair, there are a plethora of styles you can try at home. For those days where I decide to tie my hair up, I like going for a slick side parting that stays indestructibly in place all day long. To achieve that, I use copious amounts of Patrick’s M2 pomade in towel-dried damp hair. Another upshot: it smells incredible.
The DIY Shopper
For the DIY shopper, they know their style and the products they like, but are always up for trying something new courtesy of a word-of-mouth review or a trending tutorial. Sharing is caring, so this beauty disciple is all about sharing tried-and-tested tips, not to mention experimenting with a new recommendation or three.
Surratt Autographique Liner
Nellie Eden, Browns’ Creative Beauty Editor: When I'm really investing time into myself a bit of winged eyeliner makes me feel the most put together. Surratt's cult ink cartridge style liner, in Indigo Japanais is easy to apply, lasts all day and night and makes me feel like me. - Nellie Eden
Surratt Prismatique Eyes
This is my favourite eyeshadow of all time. It can add a very subtle layer of sparkle when applied in a restrained manner, or a full-bodied, deep glossy midnight black can be built up when layered. Worn best with little else.
