Rejuvenating knitwear’s ‘granny’ stereotype with her label AGR, Alicia Robinson took an inherited interest in knit designs from her mother. Pushing the boundaries of the traditional craft, she uses intarsia techniques to create vibrant reinterpretations of Fair Isle motifs and contemporary pieces in tie-dye mohair. Now a beloved designer for Notting Hill carnival, her pieces reflect the multi-culture of London and its inhabitants. Bursting at the seams with personality, AGR’s expressive designs come in explosions of neon, garish patterns and tongue-in-cheek embroidery. Our Grandma never did knit like this.
