Nigeria’s capital Lagos is home to streetwear brand and skateboard collective Motherlan. Born out of the city’s booming skateboarding scene, Motherlan finds inspiration in the lifestyle that is street culture. Founded by skaters Obiekwe, Ehi, Leonard, Slawn, Jamal, Onyedi, Nathan and Max in 2016, The brand has made waves over the years with its sartorial vision showcased in skateboarding videos. Based on a drop formula, the label releases T-shirts, sweatshirts and bottoms printed with graphics that bear references to local, Nigerian and West African culture. The designers are all about keeping it real and have said: ‘Motherlan is just us, just skating, just doing our thing.’ 15% of profits generated from sales of the Homecoming X Browns collection will be redistributed to the Metallic Inc Fund, contributing to a series of small grants supporting the creative community in Nigeria.
