Profile: Marine Serre
Profession: Eco-futurist Warrior
Location: Paris, France
Founded: 2017
Status: Conscious
Bio:
Born in the small village of Corrèze, France, Marine Serre’s original path was that of a world class tennis player. Following an accident that left her out of action, she chose fashion as her new ambition after receiving an offer from fashion school La Cambre. Graduating in 2016, Marine went on to intern with the likes of Margiela, Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga before launching her eponymous label in 2017 and subsequently winning the LVMH prize. Quickly securing a cult following, Marine Serre is well known for her couture shapes and sportswear fabrications, often adorned with her now iconic crescent moon print.
Conscious Collection:
Recognising the impact of fashion in the current political and social climate, Marine Serre’s pieces are not only a reinvention of couture as we know it, but a reflection of the future of consumption within the garment industry. Channelling her talents into creating a more sustainably focused brand, Marine has developed lines within her label to provide the wearer with the information as to the garment’s lifecycle. While the majority of her pieces, including the couture Red Line, are made using upcycled clothing and fabrics, the Green Line uses only end-of-cycle unwanted garments that are reimagined and re-stitched to form something new and entirely unique.
Marine’s latest SS20 collection was entitled ‘Marée Noire’, translating as ‘oil spill’ in English. Presented in the grounds of a racetrack, models wore a series of bleak all-black pieces in reference to the increasing apocalyptic climate war. Using reclaimed metal and recycled plastics within the collection, she presented a mix of utilitarian jackets, cargo pants and her signature crescent moon print reimagined in the form of a new paisley pattern.
