The Drop List: October

1. Prada Pegasus Chunky Sneakers ‘Black’

Showing no signs of slowing down, the chunky sneaker trend reached new heights at Prada with the introduction of the Pegasus sneaker this season. The heavy tread sole unit dominated the AW19 Prada footwear offering, featuring across boots, lace-ups and sneakers. Available in black and white colourways across men’s and women’s, this low-top silhouette features a leather and nylon upper with hiking-style laces atop a thick rubber sole.

2. Adidas Trimm Trab Sneakers ‘Green’

  First released in 1977, the adidas Trimm Trab was a sneaker closely linked with the young ‘casuals’ subculture which originated in the North West of England. Associated with sportswear and terrace-style sneakers, the ‘casuals’ were the original hype fans and represented a significant moment in the history of fashion culture. Featuring in Blur’s 1999 song Trimm Trabb, their cult status is immortalised with the lyrics, “I’ve got trimm trabb like the flash boys have”. Re-released this year, the adidas Trimm Trab features an ultra soft nubuck upper with the classic 3stripe and gold-foil lettering to the side.

3. Nike X Gyakusou Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Trail Sneakers ‘Yellow’
Working in collaboration with UNDERCOVER’s Jun Takahashi and part of the Gyakusou performance running collection, the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Trail sneakers draw inspiration from the 1970s running revolution. A hybrid sneaker to take you between the trails and the pavements, the Air Zoom Pegasus 36’s contrasting rose print and technical silhouette represents Takahashi’s ethos of mixing chaos and balance. Using a breathable mesh upper, this limited sneaker features trail-inspired toggle lacing systems and a double Zoom Air sole unit.

4. Converse Lucky Star Sneakers ‘Leopard’
Originally released in 1967, the Converse Lucky Star differs slightly from the original Chuck Taylor due to the addition of the Lucky Star patch on the sidewall. Using the same high-top basketball silhouette as the All Star, the Lucky Star has a more vintage aesthetic with extra eyelets and taped edges. A true Converse heritage classic, we’ll be channeling the animal print trend seen on the runways of Versace, Sacai and Saint Laurent with this leopard print edition.

5. Valentino Garavani X UNDERCOVER Climber Sneakers ‘White’
The second appearance from UNDERCOVER’s Jun Takahashi in this month’s Drop List comes courtesy of his latest collaboration with Valentino. Working across ready-to-wear and accessories for AW19, the partnership between Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli and Takahashi took inspiration from the 19th Century poet Edgar Allen Poe. The Climber sneaker features a chunky silhouette with dual branding and a minimalist white and green upper. Gothic graphics on the tongue contrast the clean white outer, and link the design back to its original poetic inspiration.

6. Y-3 Ren Sneakers ‘Black’
Taking style cues from the adidas POD silhouette, the Y-3 Ren sneaker employs the same split sole construction in its more extreme iteration. This streamlined style was first seen at the Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto SS19 show and is a contemporary sport trainer created to reflect the utmost in modern innovation. Easy to squeeze into your gym bag, the Y-3 Ren features a breathable mesh upper in all black with the split EVA midsole pods in black and blue.

7. Boris Bidjan Saberi X Salomon S/Lab Bamba 2 Sneakers ‘Pale Blue’
Released as part of the diffusion line 11 by Boris Bidjan Saberi in collaboration with Salomon S/Lab, the Bamba 2 mixes technical outdoor ability with the German label’s signature deconstructed aesthetic. The hand-dyed sneakers feature a pale blue colourway and layered construction with a hidden cross lace system under a zipped outer shell. Sitting on a cushioned tread sole unit, the mixed leather and mesh upper features subtle dual branding on the side and ‘11’ on the tongue.

8. adidas Temper Run Sneakers ‘Core Black’
The adidas Temper Run was a little ahead of its time, paying homage to ‘90s runners when it was re-released in 2014. Fast-forward to 2019 and we find it hard to recall a time when we didn’t want a touch of ‘90s nostalgia in our wardrobe, hence the return of the Temper Run. Using a similar silhouette to the popular Yung-1, this chunky sneaker was originally released in 1997. The 2019 version features a mixed suede, leather and technical mesh upper on a cushioned adiPRENE sole unit.

9. Hoka One One Bondi 6 Sneakers ‘Blue’
Featuring the most highly cushioned sole from Hoka One One’s road runners, the Bondi 6 feels like running on air. Fashion meets function with its streamlined upper and thick sole unit, slotting in nicely with the luxury sneaker line up to which we’ve become accustomed. A game-changer for running fans, the Bondi 6 uses a breathable upper with Meta-Rocker technology to ensure your run is safe and smooth. The full-length EVA midsole provides uncompromised comfort whilst the rubber outsole optimises durability.

10. Nike X UNDERCOVER SFB Mountain Sneaker Boots ‘Black’
Finishing off The Drop List with a hat-trick, Jun Takahashi features once again with the Nike X UNDERCOVER SFB Mountain Sneaker boot, designed to tackle tough terrain. Released as part of UNDERCOVER’s runway collection - one which took its inspiration from the cult ‘70s film The Warriors - this performance-based sneaker was originally seen back in 2015. Using a triple black colourway, it features a layered mesh upper, toggle lace locking system and ‘The New Warriors’ printed on the crossover strap.
