Sweet Dreams Are Made Of TEKLA
What is the key to a good night’s sleep? Copenhagen-based, unisex brand TEKLA has the answer, giving a whole new meaning to the term ‘beauty sleep’.

In 2017, TEKLA was born from Charlie Hedin’s frustration at the difficulty of finding beautiful, yet affordable home textiles every time he relocated (between Paris, Amsterdam and LA). “At some point, it was not about home textiles anymore,” the founder states. “It was about creating products that I want to use, that are very functional but in a beautiful way.” Case in point: TEKLA’s uncomplicated, seasonless collections of ultra-cosy bathrobes and super-soft separates, showcasing a perfect fusion of style and substance that’s guaranteed to stand the test of time. The Danish capital is an ideal home for the label which promises to imbue every bedtime with the serene feelings and Hygge synonymous with Scandinavian culture.
If you aren’t already familiar with the name Charlie Hedin, then it’s time to get acquainted. While his impressive CV shows that he was one of the original creatives behind Acne Studios, and a co-founder of cult Swedish footwear brand Eytys, fashion and textiles were not his first calling. “I was in a national sailing team when I was a kid and I called all my boats TEKLA,” the multi-faceted designer explains. References to his sailing past are interwoven through his collections, also drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the Swedish archipelago which served as the backdrop to his childhood. (One search for an image of the tiny seaside city of Martrand and you’ll understand why.) Earthy hues and nautical stripes cover the casual shirts, easy-breezy shorts, loose-fit trousers and oversized robes that you’ll be dreaming of getting back into (along with your bed).

High-quality home essentials are not the only reasons TEKLA is a dream come true. “We try to make things that are very timeless, practical, and responsible, and every part of our supply chain should reflect that,” Charlie says. “I feel that our core values are aligned with Browns, and for me, that is one of the most important things when creating a brand partnership.” In keeping with Browns’ own Conscious initiative, responsibility is an integral part of everything they do; using upcyled, organic and Oeko-Tex certified cottons which ensure plants and fibres are grown without chemicals. And they don’t stop there: everything from the packaging and labelling to the distribution takes a sustainable-first approach.

This is very good news for your sleep schedule, as going to bed with a clear conscience is also key to a peaceful slumber. “I like to go to bed at a point of physical exhaustion,” Charlie reflects. “Nothing compares to the feeling of zoning out completely after a whole day of skiing and collapsing into bed.” Before discovering this need-to-know label we might have agreed, but now nothing compares to falling into bed with TEKLA.
