24 Hours With… Margherita Maccapani Missoni
Descended from one of the most famous fashion families in the world, Margherita Maccapani Missoni needs no introduction. Honouring her family’s iconic legacy once again, the designer has just launched Maccapani - capturing a fresh and unique take on the intersection between fashion and streetwear, as seen through her lens.
With style in her blood, the forever muse is renowned for her fearless approach to styling. Maccapani encapsulates this fearlessness, transcending seasons and rules; delivering a day-to-night wardrobe of mix-and-match styles dedicated to those fluent in their own sartorial language, who dress freely and comfortably for themselves.
To commemorate this exciting launch exclusively at Browns, Margherita will be in our Mayfair flagship boutique to meet you for one day only - discover more details below. Ahead of her highly-anticipated visit, we (metaphorically) stepped into the designer’s world.

“My morning ritual? A glass of celery juice for my skin.”

“Wearing an easy and feminine dress from the collection.”

“My beautiful home in Varese.”

“I’m trying to find time to make more photo albums.”
MORNING
What time do you wake up and what's the first thing you do when you get up?
I usually wake up at 7AM and the first thing I do when I get up is try to remember what I dreamt about.
Do you have any morning rituals?
I drink celery juice for my skin.
Where do you live and how long have you lived there?
I live in Varese in a house that I built. I’ve been living here for the past five years.
Favourite thing about your neighbourhood/where you live?
My favourite thing about Varese is being in the woods and the small town provincial life that it offers. At the same time, I like being 45 minutes from Milan’s city centre.
What does your average day look like?
Waking up and getting the kids ready for school and seeing them out after we’ve had breakfast together. A couple of times a week I do my exercise before starting work around 10AM. I have lunch with my colleagues and work until it’s pick-up time. I spend a couple of hours with the kids and then I go back for a bit of work. We have dinner around 7.30PM already in our pyjamas, watch a bit of TV and then off to bed.
Describe yourself in three words... and how would your friends describe you in three words?
Curious, tenacious and dreamy. My friends would probably describe me as loyal, bossy and fun.
How would you describe the exclusive new Maccapani collection in three words?
Easy, versatile and feminine.

“I love flea markets.”

“Some of my favourite CDs in my archive.”

“I can’t live without ice cream.”
DAYTIME
What is your idea of a perfect day?
Wandering around an unknown place which could be a faraway destination but could also be a corner of Milan I have not yet discovered.
When you’re not working, what do you do for fun?
I love going to flea markets, taking walks in nature, doing arts and crafts and hanging out with my friends.
What did you do on your last day off?
I went to see Beyoncé’s concert with my mother and my sister in Frankfurt.
What do you need more time off for?
Decluttering my house and making photo albums.
What was your route into design and how did you begin Maccapani?
I grew up in and out of the Atelier so I learnt the job during my upbringing but I didn’t realise I was into it until much later. Actually, I felt like I really needed to go far away and I studied philosophy and acting. I came back to fashion by my mid 20s when I started assisting my mother, Angela, and then I became head of the accessories and licensing at Missoni.
After that I went in and out of the company for years, working on projects of my own with different collaborations in fashion, childrenswear, furniture and so on… Finally my last design job before starting Maccapani was creative direction of M Missoni’s collections.
Maccapani came when that was over and I came to realise that there was a place in the market for comfortable yet feminine clothes. So, I decided to build a collection fully developed in jersey - just not sweatshirt jersey. It is much more refined and made. The idea is a nine-to-nine wardrobe that goes beyond anachronistic categories like evening wear or sportswear. The pieces are all adaptable to wear when and as you wish.
One thing you can’t live without?
Ice cream!
What makes you laugh? What makes you cry? What gives you goosebumps?
My girlfriends. Sad movies. Watching my kids performing end-of-the-year shows.

“Saturday night dinners with friends.”

“My friends would probably describe me as fun.”

“Having the best time with my mum and sister at Beyoncé.”
EVENING
What’s on your bookshelf?
L’isola di Arturo by Elsa Morante.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Everything on my personal Spotify playlist.
What do you usually do for dinner?
Most nights I eat at home with my children. On Saturday nights I have dinner out with friends and on Sundays we do movie night as family.
What’s your favourite restaurant? And what do you eat there?
La crudaiola from La Latteria San Marco, my favourite traditional Milanese restaurant.
Do you have any evening rituals?
I drink water with “magnesio supremo” as it balances my mood, and I check on my children's backpack for the next day.
What time do you go to bed and what's the last thing you do before you sleep?
I go to bed around 11PM and the last thing I do before I sleep is usually reading on my Kindle.
What do you dream about?
I dream a lot, mostly with my eyes open. I’ve always spontaneously visualised and it’s incredible how things actually manifest.
The Maccapani collection will be exclusively available on brownsfashion.com and in Browns Brook Street for three weeks after launch.
