Calvin Klein | Breaking The Rules Since 1978

This season Calvin Klein has returned in a new form, referencing its timeless iconography, rebellious nature and strong links within youth culture.
After almost two years at the creative helm of Calvin Klein, Raf Simons has reinvented the classic American style and created a line that sits in between the original Calvin Klein Jeans and his main line 205W39NYC. The next generation Calvin Klein Jeans Est. 1978 plays with the heritage Americana trend, printed denim and a timeless aesthetic that resonates with today’s millennials.
Despite having its own vision, there is one piece of the collection that has trickled down from the archives and 205W39NYC. This being, the printed silhouette of a young Brooke Shields taken from the 1980 campaign which caused a great deal of controversy in its heyday. The original campaign, shot by Richard Avedon caused a media storm for featuring a then 15-year-old Brooke in a seemingly provocative manner. The advert was banned from TV networks CBS and ABC which only helped to establish its position as an iconic fashion moment. Who could forget her infamous line…
“Do you know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing”- Brooke Shields
It is clear that Mr Simons wanted to utilise important, key moments from Calvin Klein’s brand history when creating his unique line. The brand’s foundations lie very much within its all American image, an image Raf Simons has referenced in his collection prints that include stars & stripes and a bald eagle.
With a strong range of exciting pieces including all over Brooke printed jackets and jeans, ‘90s style sweatshirts and denim jackets, it won’t be around for long.
Calvin Klein Jeans Est. is available online and in Browns East, Club Row across men’s and womenswear.
What’s even better, is that there is more to come, with the next drop arriving in September, so watch this space…
