Diesel Goes Hybrid With Red Tag Project
During the AW18 shows at Paris Fashion Week, Diesel unveiled its latest venture Diesel Red Tag Project and we are lucky enough to welcome it to Browns as an exclusive to London.
Since founder Renzo Rosso took back the creative reins at Diesel, it’s been his mission to work with “ground-breaking and international designers” so they can put their own spin on this iconic denim brand. This new design collective will play host to three capsule collections by three different designers, each using their own aesthetic and creative prowess to interpret signature Diesel pieces in their own unique way.
The debut collection has been created by Shayne Oliver, previously at New York label Hood By Air and more recently working a residency at Helmut Lang. Tapping into the Americana trend, Oliver’s collection reworks a series of classic denim pieces including skinny jeans made up of an old denim jacket, cape-like jackets and a billowing shirt in what he likes to call a "sitcom blue wash,” a colour often sported by a man named Chandler Bing in the 90s.
“I love denim's heritage and its American roots, as well as Diesel’s Italian core. This capsule is really the language of Renzo, the brand founder. Refined razor sharp denim aesthetics that devours the excesses of trendiness,” - Shayne Oliver.
His head-to-toe denim looks have a genderless approach when it comes to styling and centre around four outfits named after four major cities - London, Paris, New York and Milano. Shayne Oliver’s shapes are unconventional, adding pockets in strange places, using zip off hems and contrasting patch detailing. The designs may be different but Diesel’s DNA is evident throughout the collection through its branding and nostalgic references.
The Diesel Red Tag Project by Shayne Oliver is launching on the 22nd September at Browns, keep up to date with the drop at @brownsmens.
