24 Hours With... Charles Jeffrey
Step into the world of one of London’s hottest young designers - Charles Jeffrey - who founded his label Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY out of a club night no less (despite initial dreams of being a video game designer). Whilst he still loves to party, these days Charles is more likely to be found making magic in his studio whilst laughing at SNL impersonations with his colleague Chris.
What time do you wake up and where?
I wake up at 8am, in my bed.
What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
Coffee, then a run. Discovering running really changed my life (and inspired my SS19 collection).
What do you eat for breakfast?
Muesli with protein powder.
People like to talk about creative juices. What’s in yours?

Hmm, that depends. Right now its ‘Move Your Head' by Efdenim.
How do you get to your studio?
I walk; it’s literally two minutes from my flat! #Ideal.
What does your average day look like?
Every day's different, but various remixes of: emails, lots of drawing, playing music and having a laugh.

I moved around a lot when I was young as my dad was in the army. When my Mum and Dad split I moved to Scotland where I lived until I was eighteen.

At first I wanted to be a video game designer, then when I hit puberty and realised I was gay/fabulous, the dream shifted to becoming a fashion designer.
How did you start the brand and what were you doing before?
I studied at Central St. Martins, taking a foundation BA followed by a Masters. During that time I started a club night called LOVERBOY - it was built to pay the bills, and ended up inspiring my brand and changing my life! Showcasing with Fashion East followed, and the rest is history...

I come from a working class background; I believe it's made me appreciate authenticity in many ways.

Put makeup on and go dancing!

Tony Roper’s ‘The Steamie’ and John Byrne’s ‘Art and Life’.
Who do you most admire and why?
I admire people like the team at my agency Starworks Group. They help young designers find their footing in the world - not for any other reason than to just help. They're Robin-Hood-made-real and it isn’t talked about enough!
What’s something we’d be surprised to learn about you?
I own a bass guitar!
Who’s the funniest person you know?
My colleague Chris! He literally makes me laugh every single day. He has memorised all of the SNL sketches, it’s such a skill...!

Brush my teeth and put Sudocrem on any spots... lol.
