The SS23 Accessories Trend Report
From the already-cult ballet slippers you’ll be racing to get your hands on to the tactile bags you’ll just want to stroke, elevate and upgrade your new season wardrobe with Browns’ guide to SS23’s biggest accessory trends.
Balletcore
The ballet slipper is officially back and set to reign as the shoe of the season. This time around, though, the classic has been given a more directional, fashion-forward spin: KHAITE’s sparkling, crystal-heavy pair are the most high-octane option, perfect for elevating your after-dark looks, while Maison Margiela’s pair, with their cult Tabi toe are the more off-kilter option. ATP Atelier’s leather take is your route to channelling the trend in both a tougher and more work-appropriate way. But it’s the Miu Miu offering that’s set to be all over your Insta feed, with their subtle sheen, quiet branding and day-to-night versatility. Cool girl status guaranteed.
Barely There
The 90s-inspired sandal – mid-heeled and nearly nude - shows no sign of disappearing from fashion’s radar but this season it’s shaken of its minimalist associations courtesy of sculptural heels and extra flourishes. Chain detailing gives KHAITE’s pair a cool-girl air and the strikingly sexy cut of Saint Laurent’s says you’re not to be messed with. Taking an uber-feminine approach is Nensi Dojaka with her delicate florals, and if you want a sure-fire conversation starter then look no further than the organic shape of Paula Canovas del Vas.
Statement Boots
Thought knee boots were a purely winter affair? This season they’re set to be a summer staple, and they’re not exactly shy and retiring, either. Whether they’re bold, bright, super-sexy – or, in the case of Paris Texas’ hot pink pair, all three – they’re the perfect match for bare legs and summer dresses. Look for unexpected fabrics like Larroude’s denim pair, perfect for co-ordinated head-to-toe dressing, or cut-outs and lace-up detailing as seen at Givenchy and indiaco.
Crystal Cravings
Get ready to satisfy your inner magpie with oversized jewellery that sparkles and shines. For SS23, designers like Amina Muadi and Sterling King worked crystals into ornate hoops and ostentatious drop earrings that were so scene-stealing that you could build your look around them. Completedworks’ teardrop necklace is an oversized take on a classic piece, while Sophie Billle Brahe’s initial rings are elegant individually but ready to make a statement when you stack and layer them up.
Handle It
The most prim and proper of handbag shapes is firmly back on the fashion radar for SS23, ready to bring its blend of structure and sophistication to your look and really hitting the sweet spot size-wise – just big enough to hold your essentials, compact enough not to be cumbersome – making them the ultimate day-to-night companion. Diesel’s high-shine gold and logoed shoulder bag has all the Y2K overtones you could want while Coperni has maxed out its signature Swipe bag with all-over crystals. Look to the likes of DENTRO and Puppets and Puppets, meanwhile, for streamlined silhouettes and interesting details.
Touch Me
If you don’t want to stroke your bag while you’re carrying it all summer then you’re doing it wrong. Tactile textures abound this season with everyone from Courrèges and Chloé to ISABEL MARANT and JW Anderson offering up fluffy, spiky, beaded and crocheted surfaces, just the thing to add a top note of excitement to your most understated, quietly elegant and laid-back looks.
