Autumn’s Forever Friends
One of September’s many joys is the thrill of rediscovering ‘proper’ clothes again. You know, clothes with structure, and sleeves. Sleeves! Autumn dressing is a back-to-school feeling, with all the excitement of seeing your friends again but none of the homework angst. What with the weather being temperamental at best, it’s ‘proper’ clothes that will be your ol’ faithfuls, to whom you turn when the weather gets cold, damp and breezy. So cast aside the swimsuits and sun hats, and throw your arms wide to the forever friends that autumn dressing reunites you with.

Reliable Shirts
Much like a good friend, shirts are a daily dependable. If shirts were people, they’d be the co-workers you chat with. The ones that get you through the day - every day. Frankie Shop’s vegan leather Yoyo shirt could be worn for a week in various ensembles: as a standalone shirt; over vest tops, plain or patterned tees or light knits; tucked into skirts or left loose over trousers. A perfect mix between trusted confidante and professional A-game: just the kind of friend you want on your team.

Practical Totes
What makes a friendship but shared memories - and you’ll never forget a thing with one of A/W20’s most practical totes. In fact, they’ll make remembering your face mask, three bottles of hand sanitiser, as well as your regular essentials that little bit more joyful. Just like your hometown best friend who seems to know what everyone from your primary school is up to now, these totes contain multitudes and seem to somehow have everything. They’re familiar and yet new, all at the same time.

Easygoing Denim
Between the rough patches, it’s important to enjoy the easier parts of life, and that’s where denim makes an appearance. An easygoing amigo, denim has (your butt) covered, and as we know, goes with pretty much everything. Take these JW Anderson ankle-tie slim jeans for example: easy but never boring. A fashion friend that gets the job done. RE/DONE’s workman’s high waist jeans in cream are the thinking woman’s update for autumn: the pale colour still matches with darker, forest-themed shades but adds a touch of lightness.

Boots That Mean Business
Anyone who’s made it through 2020 will swear allegiance to the power of a friend who’s prepared to go through the tough stuff with you: enter the autumn boot as your sartorial sidekick. With everyone from Sacai to Balmain going for a chunky tread, you’ll be sure to have a firm footing to weather the storms in a pair of these. Notable contenders for kick ass boots come from Grenson, naturally, as their Nanette lace-up leather boots pair perfectly with tartan trews or cosy knits, and Marsèll’s ankle-tie combat boots. Those piles of fallen leaves won’t know what hit ‘em.

Sharp Tailoring
On the flipside, perhaps you’re happy to coast and let someone else do the talking for a change, in which case your dramatic counterpart might come in the form of tailoring. Watch this wisecracking Gucci jacquard blazer clap back at a catcall, or let this Isabel Marant boxy blazer bring your crew their dramatic tales of a socially-distanced-but-still-steamy summer fling. Either way, you’re sure to be entertained. That’s what friends are for, right?
