The Trend Report: AW21 Accessories
Dipping into our guide to AW21’s finest ready-to-wear trends might have your outfit sorted, but a good look is nothing without the perfect accessories. Discover the top trends from the new season that we’re shopping now.
Futuristic Footwear
AW21 or AW3021? The question begged by this season’s footwear, which had models putting their most futuristic feet forward on the catwalk and beyond. Robo-inspired details, technical silhouettes and space age twists spell a new season that’s light years ahead of your current footwear game.
Tough To Boot
Bigger is better was the message in this season’s boots, whose chunky soles weighed heavily in the minds of the AW21 show attendees, who were inevitably left wondering just how long until they could get their hands on these tough-meets-trendy must-haves. The answer is now, as finally AW21 favourites begin to arrive at Browns. From Jil Sander’s lace up duck boots to Stefan Cooke’s high-shine equestrian stompers to Camperlab’s loafer-esque kickers, AW21 has us stepping into the new season chunky foot first.
Mini But Mighty
Perhaps we spoke too soon - whilst the boots were big, the bags were small, with holsters becoming ever tinier as the seasons progress (perhaps we’re simply storing things in our boots these days…? - ed.) Where Simon Jacquemus leads, the rest will surely follow, and as the king of the micro-accessory, it seems that other designers are also looking to downsize. From JW Anderson to AMI Paris and even Matthew Williams at Givenchy and 1017 ALYX 9SM respectively, the message was clear - unnecessary baggage is not welcome in AW21.
Sign Of The Times
The final callout of the AW21 accessories season speaks for itself, as monogram mania and signature details were once again present throughout the new season collections. Pledging allegiance to your favourite designer name has never been easier, whether that be via Burberry’s sleek interlocking “Bs”, Versace’s distinctive geometry or in details such as a Givenchy buckle or an Off-White tag.
