The SS23 Accessories Trend Report
Round out your new season looks with Browns’ guide to the most-wanted accessories of the season, from the hands-free bags that blend practicality and style to the cowboy boots you’ll want to wear on repeat – plus the unexpected appearance of Gizmo the gremlin.
In Neutral
Proving that understated doesn’t have to mean boring, this season’s swathe of neutral accessories are as desirable as they are directional. Both Balmain and Gucci tricked out their classic monogrammed totes on the runway, Balmain with frayed edges and multiple pouches and Gucci with, more unexpectedly, Gizmo from Gremlins. But if you prefer your neutrals more stripped back, take your cue from Lanvin’s slick cream tote or AMIRI’s clutch and look for clean lines and an immaculate finish.
Out Of The Blue
Channelling the irresistible allure of Miami skies and Caribbean seas, the SS23 runways were awash blue. Any shade goes but the brighter and more uplifting the better, with extra sartorial points for weaving an element of tie-dye or pattern into your ensemble – see AMIRI’s backpack, Palm Angel’s sunset print tote or Jacquemus’ bucket hat. At the more polished end of the spectrum look to Lanvin for its oversized tote as well as styling tips on layering multiple blue shades and textures.
Luxe Leather
A flurry of designers rounded out the lightweight fabrics and sunny shades of their SS23 ready-to-wear with leather accessories. Cowboy boots were the order of the day when it came to footwear – look to the curved toes of Prada’s black pair or Bally’s black and yellow snake offering for inspiration. Or, instead, reach for the clean lines and soft leather of Lanvin’s pristine bucket bag or the elevated practicality of Ferragamo’s multi-pocketed crossbody.
Cross The Line
Crossbody bags are still a wardrobe essential, and no wonder. Practicality aside – and who doesn’t love the freedom of being hands-free? – there’s an iteration to suit every sartorial inclination, from the luxury to the laid back. This season, Lemaire’s nude leather Croissant bag is the go-to for polished perfection while Givenchy’s boxy Antigiona messenger bag has a tougher, more utilitarian vibe. Day-to-day take your cue from ARCS and wear your drawstring bag around your neck rather than across your body or look to Barbour’s cult collaboration with Japanese brand, and Wander, for fashion meets function on a pouch-sized scale.
Statement Shades
Combining flawless style with self-expression and the ultimate finishing touch to your new season looks, the best sunglasses have a more-is-more approach this season, from unexpected shapes and outsized frames to elevated details. Look to the likes of FLATLIST and Jaques Marie Marge for undeniably cool, look-at-me styles with a retro feel and Port Tanger for luxe, understated flair. And if you’re on the hunt for a new pair of glasses, head to Kuboraum for unique shapes that are guaranteed to make a statement.
Born To Skate
Whether or not you’ve ever managed to master a kickflip you’ll want to give your sneaker collection a skate-inspired upgrade for SS23, embracing chunky soles, fat laces and next-level comfort. Bringing a luxury element to the low-key style are Lanvin’s red and white offering and Amiri’s LA-inspired pair. Stepney Workers Club, meanwhile, have conjured a wear-forever, lo-fi classic and Represent’s graphic pair has serious streetwear appeal.
