Big Little Rituals: Hannah Tindle
Lashings of lipstick, a glossy brunette bob and a slice of sharp wit - it must be Hannah Tindle, ES Magazine’s Fashion Features Director and die-hard beauty enthusiast. Contrasting creamy skin with acerbic humour, Hannah’s Big Little Rituals are about good, old-fashioned glamour - think long baths, indulgent products and a fearless attitude to trialling new treatments.

MY DAY...
The first thing I do when I wake up is...
Coffee. I cannot function without it unfortunately.
The ritual that brings me the most joy is...
Bathing. I love spending absolutely ages soaking in a bath, with salts. I’ll exfoliate everywhere and apply masks to my face and hair. I’ll finish off with clean water from the shower, rinsing all the products and bathwater away before slathering on some body oil. When I finally emerge, it’s a Birth Of Venus-like feeling.
Beauty to me is...
I really think it’s in the eye of the beholder.
In the evening...
I started slugging during lockdown and it’s been a game changer, as they say. I’ll often dab on Vaseline in areas of my face that need even more moisture locking in.
I feel most relaxed when...
I’m in – or on – my own bed. Being relaxed is not something that comes naturally to me, so I spend more time in/on bed than I care to admit. I often work from bed, too.
The beauty MVPs I can’t live without are...
Skincare-wise, I used to be absolutely obsessed with a Dermalogica mask called Gentle Cream Exfoliant that contained lactic acids. You would apply it for 15-20 minutes, rinse it away and my skin would be left smooth, radiant and ready for makeup. Sadly, it’s been discontinued, so I’ve been searching for something similar ever since. So far, Sunday Riley’s Good Genes has been working a dream when used as a treatment mask.
When it comes to makeup, I cannot live without red lip liners and lipsticks. I have so, so many in my collection. I’m currently wearing La bouche rouge’s lip liner in Rouge Orange and lipstick in Rouge Vendome. I’m pairing it with the brand’s eyeshadow palette “Les Ombres Mead”, which is also great for creating a smoky eye.

For beauty advice, I look to...
Reddit. I can spend hours and hours at a time on it.
My biggest beauty extravagance...
A touch of Botox for my face and keratin treatments for my very thick hair. I don’t colour it (yet), so I think I can justify it twice a year. I also just bought a course of laser hair removal and am looking into things like injectable skincare. When it comes to beauty, I really would try anything and everything.
My earliest beauty-related memory is...
My grandma and my mum’s perfumes. My grandma wore Chanel perfume and my mum used to wear Anaïs Anaïs by Cacharel, which first launched in 1978. I remember the bottle so distinctly.
I feel most beautiful when...
I’m in full glam on a night out with friends.
My favourite smell is...
That ‘new car’ smell. I wish someone would turn it into a candle.
My beauty icon...
It’s very hard to choose. I would have to say Elizabeth Taylor and Kevyn Aucoin.
One beauty secret...
I’m not sure if this is much of a secret but I always remember the correct order to apply products in. Makeup: always cream formulations before powder. Skincare: start with the lightest product (essences, toners) and work your way up to occlusives (such as balms and oils to seal everything in).
One thing I learned the hard way...
Fake tan of any kind is not for me.
When I’m travelling...
I don’t travel as much as I would like to, but I will say that I absolutely must have a hydrating mist or toner in a spray bottle in my handbag, particularly on long haul flights when the circulated air is so hideously drying. Plus, these products have the added bonus of providing a refreshing and much-needed spritz upon landing. I find it helps to counteract the disorienting feeling.

EVERY DAY...
AM: Splash face with water, pat dry. Apply acid/exfoliating toner to a cotton round and swipe over skin. Next, spritz with hydrating mist. Before the mist entirely dries, apply hydrating serum (I’ve been trying out Dr Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Acid Serum and am loving it) and then another spritz of hydrating mist. Finally, moisturise to seal in your products and apply SPF and makeup if going somewhere. I need to be more diligent with remembering to take my skincare down to my neck and chest.
PM: If wearing any, remove makeup with a double cleanse. This means using an oil-based cleanser to remove the makeup, then a second deeper cleanser to get rid of any residue. I always use a flannel or muslin cloth to help with this process. I’ve recently been dabbling in retinoids once or twice a week to see how my skin handles them. I’ll wait until my face is completely dry and then apply a pea sized amount. Finally, spritz with hydrating mist and apply my slugging balms over the top to seal in moisture
SOME DAYS...
Hydrating and exfoliating masks, particularly during aforementioned bathtime.
BIRTHDAY...
A laser facial. I tried one recently and have been meaning to go back for another. Someone please give me a special occasion so I can book one in.
