The Staple Shirt
The kind of piece you can hinge your whole summer wardrobe around, this season’s take on the short-sleeved shirt is there to be the answer to every outfitting question SS23 has to offer. Look for simple shapes elevated with subtle details that set them apart – Paria Farzaneh’s classic white shirt, for example, with its retro-feeling outsized collar and henna-coloured print – and revel in their endless styling possibilities.
The Transitional Jacket
Because you can never be certain what weather is just around the corner, a lightweight jacket is a failsafe essential for the summer months. This season offers up everything from the utilitarian to the super-luxe with LUEDER’s khaki bomber jacket set to be the most-wanted thanks to its directional, ruched silhouette and its ability to instantly boost the most basic of looks.

Elevated, Not Ordinary
As of now there’s no such thing as basic. From trousers to tailoring, SS23 has taken your wardrobe essentials and given them a polish so that while they’re working hard, they’re effortlessly upgrading your look. Whether you’re drawn to unexpected details or off-kilter shapes – see Aaron Esh’s boundary-pushing halter-neck waistcoat and wrap-around trousers – embrace any that’s out of the ordinary and dare to be different.

Everyday, Everywhere Denim
The perennial favourite you love but with a little something extra. If the runways were anything to go by you’ll be wearing denim head-to-toe this season so you’ll want to track down pieces that are truly exceptional. In a true-blue wash picked out with chevroned seams, AV Vattev’s jeans are the perfect match for Nick Fouquet’s distressed denim jacket – which, for maximum SS23 style points, should be worn tucked in.

The Seasonless Co-Ord
The low-key cousin of the tailored trouser suit, the co-ord is the epitome of one-step dressing with guaranteed style baked in. Look for relaxed fabrics and easy silhouettes, and if you can add sporty or utilitarian elements, so much the better. The Frankie Shop’s ultra-versatile navy blazer and cargo pant combo is one that you’ll never get tired of wearing – style them together with your favourite t-shirt or shirt to keep things really straightforward or mix and match with a never-ending array of separates.

The Short Update
This season sees shorts getting the attention they deserve with a fresh update that elevates them from low-key summer basics to much-wanted fashion piece. There’s a style to suit every wardrobe but look to Wales Bonner’s khaki cargo pair for the ultimate sartorial credentials, cut long and loose – no knees on show here – and finished with a crocheted belt for flawless city style.

The Printed Shirt
Fact: it’s impossible to have too many printed shirts in your wardrobe, which is good news because, whether you like your patterns to really shout or to more quietly whisper, SS23 has the shirt for you. Leading the charge is the bamboo print shirt from Homme Plissé Issey Miyake which, depending on how it’s styled, has the potential to satisfy everyone on the spectrum of minimal to maximalist taste thanks to its subtly striking colours, simple cut and signature accordion pleats.
