Trending... Bermuda Shorts
With the welcome return of blue skies and warmer days, it seems only fitting that shorts are dominating new season style. A somewhat polarizing trend, the Bermuda short has moved past its reputation as a tourist dad favourite and has been reimagined for SS21 as a key summer staple.
Starting its fashion journey the way many sartorial separates have, the Bermuda short’s origins began with the military. Born out of necessity, these iconic shorts were created for the British Army based in Bermuda during the First World War. Facing a tropical climate, their uniforms were altered to suit, and a military dress trouser was cut above the knee, thus becoming the Bermuda short. Swiftly adopted by the island community and evolving into a much more casual, beachside piece around the world, it is a garment with which we are all familiar.
Bringing it back to its tailored roots, this season the designers debuted their own takes on the Bermuda short. With many spending their WFH days in relaxed shorts below the Zoom camera, it is time to let the knees out of their confinement and embrace this summer style. With smart suited cuts from Jacquemus and Ermengildo Zegna and bold prints from Sacai and Casablanca, you’ll be making every day leg day.
