‘Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so,’ wrote Douglas Adams in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. We are not sure if he has been checking his watches lately, but Fiona Kruger provides the most illusionary timepieces to date. Drawing inspiration from the 17th century skull watch worn by Mary Queen of Scots, her designs are all built upon the idea of time and mortality. The Mexican celebration of Dia Los Muertos is another common motif. Each watch in our edit has been decorated and assembled by hand, with the layers of the dial making up a skull.
