Rebecca Larsson Barsotti is the swimwear designer bringing confidence to the beach, empowering women with her bold, fashion-forward designs and uber-flattering silhouettes. Relaxing on the coast of Thailand, Rebecca tells us about her recurring ladybird dreams and why her style icon is a 7-year-old.
How would you sum up what you do in a sentence?
I wish I could say I’m a designer but the truth is having your own brand means being your own intern.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A marine biologist.
Who is the ACK girl?
I just want the ACK girl to be anyone who feels comfortable at their most vulnerable - on the beach. I’d feel blessed to have been part of that confidence-building process through our designs.
Tell us about your recent trip to Thailand.
My family have a house in Phuket. My husband and I decided to spend a month and half there to avoid the cold, grey winter in Paris, work in a chill environment, be inspired and enjoy Thai food.
What does the word “holiday” mean to you?
“I wish I could say I’m a designer but the truth is having your own brand means being your own intern”
How do you waste time, when your schedule is clear?
I waste my time doing lot of different things at the same time. I’m definitely not a millennial but I have to admit I’m hooked on the multitasking/binge watching effect.
What's your greatest ambition?
Be a good mum, a good wife and a good friend.
What's the last dream that you remember having?
I have a recurring dream: a ladybird chasing me until I wake. If any good psychologists are reading this, hit me up to let me know what it means!
If you could do anything without fear of repercussion, what would you do?
Shave my head.
If you could ask anyone a question, who would you ask, and what?
I would ask myself in twenty years what I could have done better.
Describe yourself in three words…
Active, Curious, Loving.
What’s the most surprising thing we’d find if we looked at your phone?
A lot of random internet research - from baby teething to vintage Dolce & Gabbana pieces.
Best thing to do in a bikini?
Bikini means nice, hot weather, so you can do a lot of amazing things. Swim, sunbathe, eat gelato, relax….
The funniest person you know?
Axel, my husband.
One thing you can’t live without?
Spritz in summer, Bloody Mary in winter.
Least favourite thing to eat?
What was your first job?
Working the bar at my parents’ restaurant.
Who’s the coolest person you know?
Vera, my best friend’s seven year old daughter. She has the coolest attitude and amazing taste. She is a boss.
What’s the best thing about being a mother?
You have always a reason to be happy.
